DETAIL SPECIFICATION SHEET
SLEEVE (GROMMET), HARD SEAT, REDUCED HEAD,
SWAGED, COUNTERSUNK, PANEL FASTENER
This specification sheet is approved for use by all departments and agencies of the Department of
Defense.
The requirements for acquiring the product described herein shall consist of this specification
sheet and MIL-DTL-85069C, "Sleeves, Fastener, General Specification for".
DESIGN INFORMATION: Hard seat sleeve grommets covered by this specification sheet are
for use in the holes of aircraft reusable composite access panels.
REQUIREMENTS: The sleeve grommets shall be as specified herein and in accordance figures 1,
2, and 3.
1. Material. The sleeve grommets shall be manufactured from A286 cres (UNS S66286)
in accordance with SAE AMS 5525, "Steel, Corrosion and Heat Resistant, Sheet, Strip, and Plate
15Cr - 25.5Ni - 1.2Mo - 2.1Ti - 0.006B - 0.30V 1800 ºF (982 ºC) Solution Heat Treated".
2. Protective treatment. The sleeve grommets shall be passivated in accordance with
SAE AMS-QQ-P-35, "Passivation Treatments for Corrosion-Resistant Steel".
3. Finish.
P - Cadmium plating in accordance with SAE AMS-QQ-P-416, "Plating, Cadmium
(Electrodeposited)", for type II, class 2 as required.
N - No finish except passivation in accordance with SAE AMS-QQ-P-35.
4. Surface texture. Unless otherwise specified the surface texture shall be not more than
125 microinches in accordance with ASME B46.1, "Surface Texture (Surface Roughness,
Waviness, and Lay)".
5. Dimensions. The sleeve grommets shall be manufactured to the dimensions listed in
table I. Unless otherwise specified dimensions are in inches. Dimensions indicated are after
plating.
